Join BMW Motorrad on the weekend of 17-20 June for the British Round of the MotoGP World Championship at Silverstone. Premier class racing returns to the Northamptonshire circuit for the first time since 1986 with a bang.
The festival of motorcycle sport kicks off with the Riders for Health ‘Day of Champions’ on Thursday, where visitors will be able to mix with their racing heroes and help raise money for motorcycle racing’s chosen charity.
Richard Cooper and the Jentin Racing BMW S 1000 RR will be taking to the track for two Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship rounds, taking place in between the MotoGP, Moto2 and 125GP schedule. With one race on Saturday and one race on Sunday, Cooper will be among nine BMW S 1000 RRs racing for Superstock glory, including championship leader Jon Kirkham, seasoned veteran Michael Rutter along with his team mate Martin Jessopp.
Steve Brogan’s Evo specification S 1000 RR British Superbike will be taking pride of place on the BMW Motorrad display in the Manufacturer Village. The awesome S 1000 RR, BMW’s first superbike, has won Fast Bikes magazine’s ‘Superbike of the Year’ award and the international ‘Masterbike 2010’ competition, judged by journalists from over 15 nations.
Alongside the S 1000 RR will be the new, special-edition "30 Years GS" anniversary range – which includes the F 650 GS, F 800 GS, R 1200 GS and R 1200 GS Adventure. The boxer-twin machines feature the new-for-2010 Double Overhead Camshaft version of the engine, which delivers an extra 5bhp and 500rpm. BMW Motorrad staff will be on hand to offer expert advice and take test rides enquiries.
As official course bikes, BMW’s S 1000 RR and HP2 Sport will be at the head of the race grids and will sweep the track before the lights go out. BMW also provide an M6 Coupe V10 and X6 M’s as safety and medical cars.
Tony Jakeman, BMW Motorrad UK’s Marketing Manager, said: "The British Round of the MotoGP is a wonderful event and BMW is very happy to be so involved this year – especially at the revised Silverstone circuit.
"We’ve supported the championship over the past 12 years with course cars and bikes, as well as the BoxerCup and PowerCup race series’ but this year we’re getting involved with the racing action in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship too.
"There will be BMW Motorrad events and activities on and off the track and we invite everyone attending to come along, see our current model range and sign up for a test ride."
The event will offer entertainment for all the family including the Red Bull Pro Nationals motocross and the Red Bull X-Fighters Jams, a skydiving display from the Red Devils, music concerts every night and stunt displays from the legendary Dougie Lampkin and Craig Jones.
